The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD) seeks a dynamic, and collaborative academic leader with a substantial record of research, teaching, clinical, and administrative accomplishments as its next William Rocktaschel Professor and Chair, Department of Family Medicine. This is an outstanding opportunity for a visionary and inspirational leader well versed in the needs of a thriving and growing Department at one of the most respected healthcare institutions in the country. The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) and UR Medicine (the clinical enterprise across all sites) form the centerpiece of the university's medical research, teaching, patient care and community outreach missions. The School ranks in the top quartile of U.S. academic medical centers in research funding from the National Institutes of Health.
As the leader in the delivery of Family Medicine, the Chair must be strategically and operationally focused to guide the Department to the next level through the advancement of research, education and clinical programs while continuing to meet and exceed national standards of excellence. We seek a Chair who understands and fosters an academic environment, as he/she will be responsible to raise the bar on medical education and developing a stronger commitment to departmental research efforts.
The Chair will have the demonstrated ability to effectively inspire, manage, and mentor faculty and staff. This position requires a thorough understanding of the healthcare environment, both regionally and nationally, a vision for the growth of clinical services and the dedication to developing the next generation of primary care physicians. This leader will engage with other leaders across URMC and UR Medicine to effectively formulate strategy, build market share and provide high quality integrated care to ensure success. The Chair has the opportunity to take a central role with population health management for primary care across our clinical enterprise and/or to marry such clinical efforts with comparative effectiveness or other related research. The Chair also has the chance to take a central role with regional growth of the primary care network.
We seek candidates with prior administrative and leadership experience gained within a department of Family Medicine with strong interpersonal and communication skills to complement a passion for excellence and achievement. Candidates must hold a medical doctorate degree, Board-certification in Family Medicine and possess qualifications for appointment to Professor in the SMD.
