ResponsibilitiesServe as Care Coordinator for international patients who seek medical care from UCLA Health. Facilitate referrals, communicate with payers, patients, international and US-based insurances, embassies in Washington DC, consulate offices, and other sponsors re: the medical care status of patients and work with International Services Finance Team to ensure that all financial arrangements including adequate deposits and authorizations are in place. Work closely with International Case Manager in facilitating patients¡¦ transitions of care and provide or make arrangements for patient support services as needed by the international patient. Under minimal supervision, serve as a medical interpreter for patients, staff and faculty. Provide concise and accurate oral interpretations for limited English or non-English speaking patients in person at their medical appointments, via telephone, and/or via video-conferencing, throughout the hospitals, clinics and community medical offices. Translate written documents as needed/requested. Relay medical information between speakers of two different languages in compliance with all office and hospital policies and procedures, particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent, passing performance of competencies listed in the MMIA Standards of Practice, and the Code of Ethics. Assist patients as needed, including but not limited to scheduling appointments, way-finding and other needs that will enhance their patient experience at UCLA Health. Provide or make arrangements for other patient support services needed by the international patient.
QualificationsAbility to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, staff, patients, and administrative personnel. Ability to independently analyze information and situations and solve problems. Ability to identify relevant factors, trends, and options, then implement and monitor solutions. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations quickly and accurately. Skill in organizing and prioritizing workload in order to meet deadlines in light of changing, heavy workload and competing requirements. Ability to work after hours and make independent decisions. Oral communication skills to speak with individuals of varying backgrounds to obtain and convey specific information. Ability to perform job duties in a detailed and accurate manner. Skill in performing with frequent interruptions and/or distractions. Demonstrated ability in diplomacy, discretion, tact and sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Knowledge of Medical Terminology. Knowledge of EPIC/CareConnect highly preferred. Ability to maintain helpful, caring and courteous relationships with our patients, co-workers, and physicians. Demonstrated experience working in a healthcare environment and clinical setting. Ability to perform all Microsoft Word and Excel with accuracy and appropriate formatting. Skill in reading and understanding documents written in standard English text for informational communication, action and distribution. Writing skills to compose, edit and proofread routine business correspondence using appropriate English grammar, syntax, spelling and punctuation. Working knowledge of University policies, procedures and forms, as they relate to performance of job duties. Working knowledge of the organization and where to go to get issues resolved highly preferred. Ability to speak Mandarin required.
