JOB DESCRIPTION: Anesthesia Technician LOCATION: Danville DEPARTMENT: Anesthesiology WORK SCHEDULE: Rotation WORK TYPE: Full Time
JOB SUMMARY: Prepares, operates, cleans, cares for, and restocks anesthesia supplies and equipment; assists in line placements and patient care as required by nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologists. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction.
Directly accountable to CEP Anesthesia Technician or designated staff charge person.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with patients, Anesthesiology Staff, Surgeons, Surgical Suite Staff and Students.
Demonstrates basic knowledge of aseptic technique, electronics and electrical safety, and patient monitoring modalities.
Demonstrates basic knowledge of PC skills to include Excel, Word and Epic.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Current BLS certification required.
Previous direct patient care experience with exposure to patient monitoring modalities preferred. This may include licensed or unlicensed caregivers, and/or individuals technically trained in other areas of patient care.
Pursuit of educational program leading up to certification by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians is preferred.
Strong science background preferred.
All newly hired anesthesia technicians will be required to take a certification exam following two (2) years of experience and classroom instruction. a. Exam will be based on ASATT guidelines and require comparable passing scores. b. Candidate will be allowed 3 attempts to successfully pass the exam. c. Candidates who fail the first exam will have two additional chances to pass the exam: 1. Second attempt within 6 months of first attempt 2. Final attempt within one year of first attempt.
Anesthesia technicians who fail to pass the exam after three attempts will be terminated.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Heavy lifting and transporting of patients and/or equipment, possibly in excess of 200 pounds, may be required.
Responsible for staffing call, rotating shifts, and holiday prior to being certified.
