WORK SCHEDULE: Days. Weekend and holiday rotation. Travel to GWV campus based on staffing needs.
WORK TYPE: Full-time
Assists with the daily supervision and management activities related to the Central Sterile Supply department. Assists in maintaining departmental compliance with regulatory agencies, including JCAHO and Department of Health.
Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following established infection control practices.
Directs the work of others in the absence of management personnel.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
Works under the general direction of the CSS Supervisor.
Duties may vary by site.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrates ability to make independent decisions and prioritize workload.
Demonstrates ability to read, write and comprehend the English language.
Demonstrates good computer skills, ability to perform arithmetic calculations and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all sterile processing functions.
Demonstrates a willingness to work in a team environment. Shows flexibility and resourcefulness when faced with unforeseen circumstances and is available for additional duties within the scope of practice.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Working knowledge of Central Sterile systems and procedures, distribution methods, and operating room asepsis required.
Minimum three years of certified sterile processing experience required.
Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) or recognized equivalent certification required. Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) required. Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) certification or recognized equivalent required within 12 months of promotion/hire.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Requires extensive standing, ability to bend, stoop, push sterilizer carriages and lift 45 pounds.
