POSITION SUMMARY This position is directly responsible for the coordination of donor heart and/or lung procurement and delivery. This position is responsible arranging transportation, recording estimated time of arrival, updating donor status with surgical staff and confirming the donor and recipient ABO type. Responsible for maintaining a data base recording of the logistics, thoracic import report, procurement personnel profile, and donor organ/specimen delivery record. CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Performs required clinical tasks involving organ procurement and ABO type matching. Administration of cardioplegia and/or pulmoplegia. Provides pulmonary vascular support. Obtaining lymph nodes and a portion of spleen for ABO typing. 2. Assists in the administration duties including coordinating and arranging organ procurement and maintenance of organ procurement records. Transportation coordination and arrangement. Recording estimated time of arrivals, updating donor status with surgical staff, confirming the donor and recipient ABO type. Maintaining a record of the Logistics, Thoracic Import, Procurement Personnel Profile, and Donor Organ/Specimen Delivery. 3. Assists in training new employees. Demonstrates proficiency in clinical teaching or organ procurement perfusion trainees. Demonstrates proficiency in clinical teaching of patient case reviews. 4. Fosters an atmosphere of continuing education among perfusion students and peers. Attends continuing education opportunities. Attends departmental meetings regularly. Conducts himself/herself professionally at all times. 5. Works independently to provide excellent patient care. Internal customers include patients, staff, and physicians. External customers include patient family. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
