The Overton VA Medical Center in Shreveport, LA is seeking a part-time, (0.8 FTEE), Physician (Otolaryngologist). We will accept application packets on an on-going basis; however, qualified applicants will be referred to the selecting official at two-week intervals. Major Duties/Responsibilities: The Otolaryngology Staff Physician is administratively and clinically responsible to the Chief, Otolaryngology Section, Surgical Service. He/She provides clinical management of patients with Otolaryngologic diseases. Clinical Competence: - Examination - Uses assessment skills to promptly exam new patients; provides follow-up when indicated. - Diagnosis - Accurately interprets and evaluates clinical data for the purpose of determining diagnosis and clinical status. - Therapeutic Ability - Initiates appropriate and timely treatment. Recognizes changes in behavior, symptoms, sign, and other pertinent factor about the patients and has the ability to modify plan of treatment when indicated. - Surgical Skills - Initiate and completes otolaryngology operative procedures appropriately. - Effectiveness in Emergencies - Acts quickly in recognizing emergency situations and takes timely necessary action. - Patient Management - Maintains confidentiality of patients and relatives through competence and interpersonal skills - Consultations and Specialty Skills - Acts as a consultant for the Otolaryngology Section in developing, implementing and evaluating diagnosis and treatment of patients with Otolaryngology disease. -Record keeping - Promptly and completely reports physical examinations and changes in patient status. Creates and maintains a patient-centered care environment. Educational Competence: -Teaching Monitoring - Serves as a mentor for fellows, residents, trainees, students, other employees, and interacts with academic affiliates as needed. Plans and guides their educational activities to meet the individual needs of the learner and ensures that requirements of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) are met successfully. Research and Development: - Identification of Research and Development Problems - Selects, develops, and conducts literature search on researchable problems that are relevant to the health care of Veterans and has a reasonable expectation of successful conclusion. -Planning and Execution of Research and Development Programs - Establishes goals and effectively executes a plan to insure successful completion of a research project. - Reporting and Publication - Prepares timely, sound, and orderly reports. Administrative Competence: - Effectiveness in Planning - Collaborates and coordinates with other professional, technical, and administrative staff. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 7:00AM - 3:30PM Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
