The Birmingham VA Medical Center is currently recruiting Licensed Practical Nurses to work within our Patient Care Nursing Service Line. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until June 30, 2021. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be 9 April 2021. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals, every Friday, or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. Birmingham VA Medical Center (BVAMC) is a Level 1a major interdisciplinary teaching facility with service-lines serving medical, surgical, and neurological inpatients and outpatients, with a Level Ill Emergency Department, and multiple community-based outpatient clinics (CBOC). There ls a large outpatient psychiatric population, with admissions for medical co-morbidities. The Southeastern Blind Rehabilitation Center provides services in a residential setting. Home-Based Primary Care is provided in the veteran's home. General description of assigned duties include, but, are not limited to: Performance designed to promote and maintain health, prevent illness and injury and provide care utilizing standardized procedures and the nursing process under the direction of a licensed professional {registered) nurse or a licensed or otherwise legally authorized physician (provider). Such practice requires basic knowledge of the biological, physical, and behavioral sciences and of nursing skills but does not require the substantial specialized skill, independent judgment and knowledge required in the practice of professional nursing (Alabama Board o1 Nursing}. Provides direct patient care. Assesses within the scope of an LPN's education and license, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Participates in patient and family education, self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Participates in actions that influence care outcomes by participating as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
