Summary
The Patient Care Associate assists nursing service personnel with a variety of patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The Patient Care Associate assists with personal hygiene, takes vital signs and changes bed linens. The Patient Care Associate may serve and collect food trays, provide for between-meal nourishment, and clean, sterilize, store and prepare other supplies. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Works under immediate supervision. -
PCA typically reports to a registered nurse or supervisor.
General Responsibilities: ⨠Demonstrates how to properly use thermometer and clean after each use. Must be used on every individual entering the facility. ⨠Demonstrates/Explains personal protection by using hand sanitizer after each encounter with patient/visitor if touches or has contact with anything they touch. ⨠Explains current visitor policy, especially any recent updates/changes. ⨠Explains screening questions for employees/physicians/guests/patients, especially any recent updates/changes. ⨠Explains triage for patients with symptoms. Demonstrate/Discuss handing mask to patients with that are symptomatic and instructing patient how to use mask. Follow-up with ED Triage for patient intake per hospital protocols. ⨠Review of visitors currently on units, ensuring process for sign-in and sign-out. ⨠Explains possible exceptions to no visitation rules, and who to call to escalate. Must have comfortability in having conversations with House Officer (HO) and Administrator on Call (AOC). ⨠Demonstrates use of Stratus for non-English speaker, or person who is Deaf and/or Mute. ⨠Willingness to do other duties as assigned, during downtime
