This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more Designated first-line supervisory authority, responsibility, and accountability for nursing care for the 24/7 operations of the medical center during WHEN (weekend, holiday, evening, night) hours, ensuring that subordinate personnel provide timely nursing care which complies with generally accepted standards of clinical practice. *Transcripts (official / unofficial) MUST be submitted by each applicant to meet basic qualifications of this position. This position includes the authority to accept, amend, or reject the work of assigned personnel. Has continuing responsibility for all the following functions: (1) Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work; (2) Assigning work to assigned personnel based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates; (3).Evaluating performance of assigned personnel; (4)Making recommendation for appointments, advancements or reassignments of assigned personnel; (5) Giving advice, counsel, or instruction to assigned personnel on work and administrative matters; (6) Hearing and resolving complaints of assigned personnel and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors; (7) Recommending and/or taking disciplinary action where appropriate; 8) Identifying developmental and training needs of assigned personnel and providing or making provision for such development and training (VA Handbook 5007, Part III, Chapter 8). Job duties include: Clinical expert and consultant: reviews quality of care, conducts regular rounds, case reviews, chart reviews, etc. Leads performance improvement activities under the direction of the ADNPCS (Nurse Executive) and engages staff in PI Identifies educational needs of staff and ensures that these needs are addressed. Has an integral role in supporting and facilitating student nurse clinical experiences, as well as orienting and supporting new staff. Provides skilled back-up to the ED and ICU Responder/resource for codes and other medical emergencies Coordinates transfers/admissions Actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians Provides management of all resources, including staffing and supplies Manages ED resources (staff) during WHEN hours, to maximize utilization of staff throughout the medical center. Responsible for staffing on a continual basis (24/7), validating data used for the staffing methodology process, and working with Nurse Managers to identify and share resources Coaches staff, deals with employee conduct and performance issues, completes recurring reports and contributes to performance evaluations in a timely manner Participates on service and medical center committees and task forces to improve nursing practice and patient care. Works in partnership with union representatives and adheres to EEO principles. Additionally responsible for customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, interviewing prospective staff, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards.
