The Birmingham VAMC is seeking a board certified or board eligible gastroenterologist that will provide full spectrum gastroenterology coverage and care, with a focus on advanced and therapeutic endoscopy. This physician will provide comprehensive medical and specialty consultation services for both outpatients and inpatients at the Birmingham VAMC. The physician may be responsible for performing standard GI procedures such as upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy and capsule endoscopy as needed. He/she will serve on committees, participate in quality assurance programs, and assist our facility to meet established performance measures. Significant research training and experience is preferred. Teaching and supervision of physician trainees at multiple levels is an integral component of the position. The applicant must qualify for academic appointment at the affiliate university. The Physician will perform advanced endoscopic procedures including both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), including but not limited to endoscopic cyst gastrostomy placement and celiac plexus neurolysis, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR)/endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for both foregut and colonic disease. Work Schedule: Part time, variable, Monday - Friday, 8:00 to 4:30. Total time 15 hours/week.
