Principal Duties/Responsibilities The selectee serves as the Assistant Program Manager for a major specialty treatment program of the Behavioral Health Service Line within the Gulf Coast VA Healthcare System; this system is comprised of multiple divisions across three states. The position reports directly to the Associate Chief of Staff for Behavioral Health or his designee. Management Duties (50%-75% of the time) ~ Broad program management responsibilities, which include operation and management of key clinical, training, and administrative programs, to include development and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures; oversight of administrative and programmatic resources; monitoring of outcomes using a data-driven quality assurance process. ~ Serves as Behavioral Health leader, in active collaboration with disciplinary leads (Lead Psychologist, Lead Psychiatrist, Lead Social Worker, Lead Addictions Therapist, Associate Nurse Executive for Mental Health); have full responsibility for oversight of professional practice of the Behavioral Health multi-disciplinary staff. ~ Provides clinical and administrative supervision to a large multidisciplinary staff, which includes facilitation of treatment staffing meetings, oversight of peer review and quality assurance procedures, as well as management of budgetary and salary resource allocations. ~ Performs performance evaluations of all staff assigned to the program; approves time and leave; and oversees daily operations, including budgetary oversight. Clinical Responsibilities (15-40% of time) ~ Provides a full range of behavioral health services, including assessment and treatment, including the use of the most clinically appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care. ~ Provides clinical consultation to various disciplines and levels of training. ~ Direct responsibility for all aspects of behavioral health services in the program, including those conducted by trainees and staff. ~ Consults with and serves as a resource for other professional staff concerning the need for and development of behavioral health services. Academic/Teaching/Training ~ May hold faculty or adjunct appointment at affiliated University. Involved in the training of medical students, medical and psychiatric residents, psychology interns, social work interns, and nursing students. ~ Provides leadership, guidance, and consultation on staff education and development. ~ Orients, teaches, and serves as a consultant to other medical center staff and trainees, and assists in their formulation of the psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment of their patients. Research/Program Evaluation ~ Responsible for timely completion of all program evaluations and documents required by the Medical Center, VISN, and VACO, ensuring compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies such as CARF and JCAHO. ~ Consults with others to offer guidance and stimulation in research directions for the program.~ Plans and oversees the completion of research programs designed to provide information regarding program planning and relevant treatment approaches. ~ Presents outcome data/research results at VA and national scientific meetings. Other Significant Duties and Responsibilities ~ Serves on Medical Center, VISN and National VA committees and task forces. ~ Represents the Medical Center at professional community groups/events and committees, in conferences and meetings with higher ranking managers, supervisors and staff from other disciplines or work units, and/or representatives of local public interest groups. ~ Actively participates in leadership roles on local, state, and national professional organizations. ~ Responsibilities include resource management and distribution, budget formulation and monitoring, assessing staffing levels and needs, staff recruitment and management, space planning, and assessing equipment and technology needs. ~ Other Duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Chief of Staff/designee.
