The Department of Epidemiology, Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH), Emory University is seeking a post-doctoral fellow in Social and Genomic Epidemiology. The fellow will have the opportunity to work on several collaborative studies of psychological, behavioral, social and genomic factors as they contribute to racial/ethnic health disparities. Based on background, skills, and interests, the fellow would have the opportunity to work on projects ranging from epigenome-wide association studies to analysis of aging biomarkers (telomere length, epigenetic age) in the context of social stress across the lifecourse and cardiometabolic health.
The fellow is expected to increase his/her methodological and substantive knowledge of social and genomic epidemiology, build skills for developing and implementing research studies, and have opportunities to lead and/or co-author manuscript publications. S/he will perform population health research activities, including developing and implementing research protocols, performing data analyses, preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, delivering presentations at scientific meetings, assisting in the development of grant proposals, and providing other research and methodological support for existing and ongoing studies. Opportunities to develop and write funding proposals are also available.
The fellow will be under the mentorship of Dr. Shakira Suglia and will have the opportunity to collaborate with study investigators at Emory School of Medicine (Dr. Karen Conneely) and Columbia University (Dr. Rachel Shelton and Dr. Andrea Baccarelli).
The fellow will be based at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, with a start date of late summer/early fall. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with NIH standards.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or other relevant quantitative field
Demonstrated experience in epigenetics or analysis of genomic data
Expertise in data management and analyses using R
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster a good working relationship with others on the team and collaborator
Demonstrated experience in developing manuscripts for publication
Interests: Social epidemiology; epigenetics; aging; weathering; cardiovascular disease; lifecourse epidemiology; stress; DNA methylation; biomarkers; health disparities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
