Hakeem Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow. The newly established Hakeem Lab provides an exciting research program in the area of immune responses against chronic viral infection and cancer. The Fellow will study different factors shaping the epigenetic landscape of exhausted T cells (Tex) during chronic viral infections, mainly HCV, but could be extended in the future to include other viral infections such as HIV. The fellow could also participate in projects using mouse models to investigate Tex biology.
Hakeem laboratory is part of PATRU at the Dept. of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, and is affiliated with Emory Vaccine Center (EVC) at Emory, with access to great scientific and technical resources.
PATRU and EVC host a dynamic team of experts in immunology, virology, systems biology, proteomics, and genetics, involved in human, mouse, and nonhuman-primate studies, who all work collaboratively in a fully integrated environment. Additionally, both entities are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and technologies. The Fellow will be engaged with cutting-edge techniques including multi-omics, high- dimensional flowcytometry, functional immune assays, and molecular biology, in addition to a great opportunity to enhance bioinformatics skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The successful candidate is expected to design and manage research projects independently. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Optimizes, analyzes, executes and evaluates experiments and research protocols/procedures. Scientific presentations. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment, and for specific lab tasks. May train and supervise other lab members. Must be well organized, technically proficient, critically minded, and able to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a diverse team. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A PhD in Immunology. Experience with cell culture, flow cytometry and other immunological techniques. A proven track-record of success in the immunology research, and a strong record of scientific accomplishments.
Skills in molecular biology, Bioinformatics, and/or BSL2 Experience would be an asset, but not essential, and training will be provided.
