Position Summary
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) is seeking a new staff physician for Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis.
Nationally recognized as a premier destination for pediatric medical care, research, and medical education, Phoenix Children’s provides care to the fourth largest pediatric market in the United States. PCH healthcare system is rapidly growing, with planned addition of 2 additional community hospitals in the next 3 years, including expansion of neonatal care. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is also rapidly growing, and seeks an individual to serve on a transfusion medicine team with clinical responsibilities in blood bank and apheresis. Leadership opportunity exists for the right candidate, as we continue to expand our services.
Clinical duties include consultation in the area of blood banking, transfusion medicine, coagulation and therapeutic apheresis. The scope of apheresis services consists of collections for stem cells and immune effector cells, extracorporeal photopheresis, plasma exchange, red cell exchange, therapeutic cytapheresis, LDL apheresis and therapeutic phlebotomy. The apheresis program performs on average 650 procedures annually. The transfusion service dispenses over 13,000 products annually to support over 1200 medical staff members providing complex inpatient and outpatient medical care in over 55 pediatric specialties and subspecialties, including support of red cell exchange and hemoglobinopathy clinics. Service and teaching responsibilities will be shared with two other full-time transfusion medicine and apheresis physicians. There is opportunity for participation in research trials and other scholarship.
Academic appointments at the University of Arizona College of Medicine at Phoenix is strongly encouraged as a significant portion of time will be dedicated to teaching activities for fellows, residents and students. Additional academic appointments at Mayo Clinic Arizona and Creighton University School of Medicine in Phoenix are available.
Successful candidates will be BC/BE in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine, with primary training in Clinical Pathology (preferred), Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Anesthesia or Hematology/Oncology (adult or pediatrics). Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals to advance clinical programs and research are required.
The staff physician shall provide patient care services and will support the PCH mission of providing hope, healing and the best health care for children and their families.
Education
- MD or DO degree. (Required)
Certifications
- Current Arizona License to Practice Medicine or the ability to obtain prior to start date. (Required)
- Board certified/Board Eligible in the appropriate specialty. (Required)
