Loyola University Medical Center (LUMC) has an excellent full-time employment opportunity for a Board Certified or Board Eligible Transplant Surgery physician to join the Department of Surgery located in Maywood, Illinois.
The Department of Surgery and the Division of Intra-Abdominal Transplantation at LUMC is searching for an outstanding, highly motivated transplant surgeon, with a record of clinical and academic contributions to the field, to join our dynamic group of six surgeons in our expanding Transplant Program. To support the growth and fulfill the educational mission of LUMC, an ASTS Transplant Surgery Fellowship was established in 2020, and a partnership with the Division of Surgical Oncology was recently established to expand the care of patients with hepatobiliary disease.
The transplant program at LUMC has demonstrated an annual growth for the past three years, is a CMS/UNOS certified program, and is a member in good standing for liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation. The Abdominal Transplant Program at LUMC has recently established a partnership with The Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital to expand the local kidney transplantation footprint.
The transplant surgeon will be an active member for the LUMC transplant program and is expected to play a collaborative role with our Surgical Oncology group in the expansion of our Hepato-Biliary practice and in the creation of a Liver Center. The candidate will be expected to support our clinical program, as well as contribute to education, outstanding outcomes in clinical care, and supporting its academic mission.
Principal duties include:
- The successful candidate must have kidney transplant experience, encompassing both deceased donor and living donor transplants. Experience in laparoscopic donor nephrectomies is required. Robotic skills and experience with national paired kidney exchange transplants are desirable.
- The ability to independently perform deceased donor liver transplants is required. Formal Hepatobiliary training is highly desirable. Robotic hepato-biliary skills are also highly desirable.
- Experience in multi-organ donor recovery for both DBD and DCD is required.
- A proven academic track record as a transplant surgeon in education and research is highly desirable. Educational interests primarily in medical student education, as well as general surgery resident and transplant surgery fellowship training are expected from a successful candidate and will be of important considerations in the selection process.
- Leadership/Administrative experience is highly desirable.
Requirements for this opportunity include:
- Assistant or Associate Professor level
- Must have completed an ASTS certified program or a program of equivalent certification
- Board Eligible or Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery
- Licensed to practice in the State of Illinois at the time of hire
This is an excellent opportunity for a Transplant Surgeon to join Loyola University Health System.
