The Department of Pediatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine seeks to hire a physician faculty member to work with the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Strong4Life Clinic. In addition, this role will hold a dual appointment with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta as Medical Director for Strong4Life.

In 2011, Children's launched the Strong4Life movement, a unique model for change designed to improve the health and well-being of Georgia's children. Created specifically for families struggling with health issues related to weight, the Strong4Life Clinic provides a warm and nurturing environment of specialized pediatric-trained team members, including a board-certified obesity medicine pediatrician, a dedicated pediatric psychologist as well as a staff of registered dietitians, exercise physiologists and other wellness experts. Offering both medical and surgical treatment options, our family-centered, motivational approach begins with complete medical assessments of obesity-related illnesses, nutrition, physical activity and mental health support needs.

The focus is on reducing the prevalence of childhood obesity through prevention and treatment initiatives for kids and those that influence their lives. Strong4Life leverages Children's clinical and nutrition expertise and thought leadership with other organizations who are joining in the fight against childhood obesity. Strong4Life impacts kids and families through programs and community partnerships designed to deliver consistent messaging and support that bring about sustainable lifestyle change.

Strong4Life aspires to decrease the prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity in Georgia through the promotion and encouragement of healthy habits. Our obesity prevention approach addresses key influencers and environments where our kids live, learn and play.

The Strong4Life Physician and Medical Director is expected to:

Care for children and their families struggling with weight and weight-related health issues

Partner with patients and families to develop a treatment plan to manage and treat any obesity-related illnesses and to help patients and families make the lifestyle changes that lead to long-term health improvement.

Work to improve quality and cost-effectiveness in the delivery of care

Develop strong working relationships with referring physicians.

Contribute to the development and improvement of pediatric clinical, educational and research programs throughout Children's and its affiliated training programs

Provide medical direction to the Strong4Life Clinic to promote quality and appropriateness of care at Children's hospitals and satellite facilities including identification of all relevant medical issues for efficient and effective operation and further development of the Applicable Unit consistent with Children's Bylaws, Professional Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, Children's and departmental policies, procedures and protocols, TJC standards and in compliance with medical standards.

Assist Children's in the performance of utilization review, quality assurance, cost containment functions, and risk management programs for the Strong4Life Clinic.

Provide input on and enforce, in conjunction with Children's, appropriate policies and procedures for the operation of the Strong4Life Clinic.

Supervise the clinical operation of the Strong4Life Clinic.

Maintain such records or prepare or assist in the preparation of such reports, as may be necessary in order to comply with the requirements of any governmental agency, accrediting body, funding sources, or similar entity with respect to the Strong4Life Clinic.

Review and comment on Strong4Life Clinic protocols.

Meet at least quarterly with VP, Child Advocacy.

Meet at least bi-monthly with Director, Physician Practice Operations of CPG Strong4Life Clinic.

Meet with Strong4life Clinic and Professional Staff members at least twice a month.

Develop and maintain harmonious working relationships with Professional Staff members, as well as Children's staff, members of professional and allied health departments.

Promptly notify appropriate managerial or supervisory personnel within Children's if (i) any equipment provided by Children's is defective, inoperative or in disrepair; and/or (ii) any Children's employee, in the best judgment of the Medical Director, is incompetent, inadequately trained or absent without proper excuse.

Provide input into the development and implementation of corporate integration efforts as may be required.

Enhance Strong4Life Clinic through communication with Professional Staff members, Children's staff and relevant others.

Promote Strong4Life Clinic through provision of educational programs and/or materials to enhance professional and community awareness including, but not limited to, the following:

• American Academy of Pediatrics
• Obesity Society

Perform such other administrative duties as may be reasonably requested by Children's with respect to the Strong4Life Clinic.

Minimum Qualifications

• Board certified or Board certified within five (5) years of the completion of residency or fellowship training
• Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Georgia.
• Current DEA registration.
• Credentialed to practice medicine as part of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff.
• BLS/PALS certification required.
• Minimum of five (5) years' experience in General Pediatrics.
• Experience in the prevention of childhood obesity in clinical and programmatic settings
